The Skye Bridge Story
‘in the face of one of the most successful campaigns of public protest seen in Scotland, or Britain, in recent times, the Skye Bridge experiment failed. . . because the tolls on which it depended proved unsustainable. . . What it took to win that victory is what this book’s about – a book that’s greatly to be welcomed.’
James Hunter
The author of this publication, Andy Anderson, was a prominent Skye Bridge campaigner who was charged and served a prison sentence for refusal to pay the tolls. He has been assisted by numerous local people in the compilation of this book. The book is a bi-lingual (English/Gaelic) publication and priced at £14.99. It can be purchased through Argyll Publishing’s online store:
Sgeulachd No Dhà às an Lios/A Tale or Two from Lismore
A Tale or Two from Lismore (Sgeulachd No Dhà às an Lios), was written by Donald Black, a native of the Island of Lismore, and launched in the Island’s village hall in October 2006. Since then, the book has retained its popularity as an important Scottish interest and bi-lingual (English/Gaelic) publication. Donald, Black, who is almost eighty, has produced a detailed account of the island's past and present. As a member of the Comman Eachdraidh Lios Mor (Lismore Historical Society) Donald is actively involved in island life as a local historian and guide.
Co-incidental to the launch of the publication, is a new base for the Comman Eachdraidh's artefacts (the Lismore Heritage Museum) which is now open to the public. The revenue generated from the sale of Donald's book will, in part, help to sustain the museum.
Copies of the book can be obtained by contacting Donald Black at the Lismore Heritage Museum, Isle of Lismore, Argyll PA34 or telephone 01631 760 257.
