Cairngorms Partnership

  • Government-sponsored policy making and management partnership for the Cairngorms area, which incorporates many other government and special interest groups, all of whom are stakeholders in the ongoing debate concerning the Cairngorms National Park.

Crofters Commission

  • Official website of the Crofting Commission, with background, history and practical information for all would-be crofters.

Friends of the Earth

  • Active environmentalist group currently campaigning for Environmental Justice. Website includes many useful links, background and information about community sustainability projects.

John Muir Trust, Scotland

  • Well-known conservation organisation, which focuses on the protection of ‘wild places’, including several crofting estates in Scotland, which have been purchased and are now managed by the Trust.

Rural Community Gateway

  • The Gateway for information and services to rural communities in Scotland. This website is an ideal first stop for networking, rural news, information, links and documents relating to rural communities.

Rural Housing Service

  • The Rural Housing Service is a charitable organisation which offers information and advice to rural communities seeking to improve the provision of housing in their area. The service is free, and helps with funding and management issues.

Second Nature: Education for sustainability

  • Site dedicated to developing education for sustainability in the higher education sector. A thought-provoking site, with a useful publications section for anyone wishing to read further on the above subjects.

Strathmore & the Glens Rural Partnership

  • Strathmore and The Glens has been set up to facilitate the implementation of ideas which would improve the way of life across a broad sweep of the countryside in Eastern Perthshire. It is a voluntary group set up under the auspices of the Perth and Kinross Strategic Rural Partnership.

World Wide Fund for Nature

  • The Rural Development Committee meets regularly to discuss rural issues, and recently commissioned and published a report on ‘Changing Employment Patterns in Rural Scotland’, written by Mark Shucksmith of the Arkleton Centre. Access to the research briefings, notes and papers is also available through the Scottish Parliament website.

Community Heartbeat Trust

  • The Community HeartBeat Trust is a national charity focused on provision of life saving defibrillation services to local communities.
